Nasdaq -12% Into the Midterms: Reading the Last Two Stamps Honestly
Nasdaq futures are 12% off their October 6 high on midterm night, S&P futures 5%, and the structure layer that marked the last two bottoms on both indexes is quiet. That combination is the whole reason for this read - not a call, a frame.
The seasonal context first, because everyone is quoting it
Historically, every midterm election since 1950 - 19 of 19 - was followed by a higher S&P 500 twelve months later, and the midterm year itself has averaged a peak-to-trough drawdown of roughly 16%. That is a tendency, not a mechanism. It tells you nothing about where this correction ends, only that corrections into midterms are normal and that the year after has tended to be kind. We don't trade statistics; we read structure. Context, not a forecast.
Case one: April 2025
Nasdaq fell 20% from the December 2024 high, S&P 16% from its February high. The panic low printed on April 7 - NQ at 16,460, ES at 4,832. The Accumulate stamp did not print there. It printed on April 21, two weeks later, on the retest, on both indexes, the same day: NQ closing at 17,922.25, ES at 5,184.75. Price never traded below either bar again. Within twelve months NQ reached 26,901.75 - 50% above the stamp - and ES reached 7,185.75, 38% above its stamp.
Case two: March 2026
Nasdaq down 12% from the October 2025 high, S&P down 9% from its January high. Stamp on March 27 - again on both indexes, again the same day - at 23,328.50 on NQ and 6,412.25 on ES. The actual low came four sessions later: NQ at 22,961.50, 1.6% under the stamp; ES at 6,353.25, 0.9% under. Neither index has traded below those lows since. By October 6 NQ printed 31,616.50, 35% above the stamp, and ES printed 7,897.50, 23% above.
Notice what both cases have in common
The stamp came after the low, not before. The layer is not a bottom-caller; it marks positioning being built at a price, and it only does that once the market has shown it. Both times, "no stamp" was the state of the chart at the exact low. So a quiet layer tonight is not a bottom call, and it is not a "no bottom" call either. It is the layer doing what it does: waiting.

Tonight's chart, plainly
Nasdaq futures are 12% off the high, in their third session under the daily trend reference, with daily momentum negative for the first time since late October. The nearest structural support is the August 1 low at 27,201.50; below it the March low at 22,961.50. Weekly momentum has been falling for four weeks.
S&P futures are 5% off the high, also in a third session under the daily trend reference. Daily momentum on ES turned negative on November 2 - the first negative read since April 7, seven months ago. Support sits at 7,340.75 and 7,232.25; the weekly reference below that is the March stamp low at 6,353.25.
The pre-conditions of the two cases above are on both charts. The one thing that made those cases cases - the stamp - is not.
What would inform us
A hold of 27,201.50 on NQ and 7,232-7,341 on ES, followed by a stamp, would say structure is being tested, not broken. Weekly closes under 27,201.50 and 7,324 that stick, with the weekly trend reference still falling, would say the bigger trend is in question - and the layer would stay quiet through that, which is also information. Both outcomes are readable; neither is a prediction.
Survivorship caveat, on purpose
Two cases on two indexes is a replay, not a sample. We show them because they are the most recent and most comparable, and because the mechanism - stamp after the low, on the retest, on both indexes the same day - is the point. It does not guarantee the next one.
The stamp, when it prints, will be posted the moment it does. Accumulate is free on TradingView and TrendSpider.
